Instant get! Irány London!
It's been a few months since we last saw a big price drop with the BlackBerry Z10 in the UK, but Carphone Warehouse are at it again. Right now, the UK retailer has the first BlackBerry 10 handset from just £149.95 on Pay-As-You-Go when you upgrade, or £159.95 for new customers. If you need it SIM free then you are only looking at £179.95. And the contract prices are cheap too - starting at just £14.00 per month with no up-front cost for the BlackBerry.
These new prices are a big step down from when we last looked - then the Z10 was £259.95. Why the Z10 has dropped so much is anyones guess. I realize that it has now been around since Q1 this year but at this new price I can't see much (if any) profit being made. Carphone Warehouse still have the BlackBerry Q10 at £499.99 SIM free which seems a bit of a joke when you put the two side by side now.
On the run up to Christmas this could possibly be one of the biggest bargains for the UK smartphone market. I wonder if that is what is behind the new pricing? The RIMpire fights back!

BBM Welcomes Over 20 Million New Active Users in the First Week
BBM Community Grows to More Than 80 Million Users Across BlackBerry, Android and iPhone Devices Globally
WATERLOO, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - Oct. 29, 2013) -
After the amazing launch of BBM(TM) on Android(R) and iPhone(R) devices, with more than 10 million downloads in the first 24 hours, BBM has now ended its first week with more than 80 million monthly active users(i), including over 20 million new users on Android and iPhone devices.
During its first week, BBM was the top free overall app in 35 countries in Google Play(TM) and in 107 countries in the App Store(SM), and continues to maintain a strong position in key markets such as Canada, the US, the UK, Indonesia and much of the Middle East, to name a few.
"It is great to see so many people downloading BBM, but the true measurement for us is engagement - the connections being made and the conversations in which our BBM community engages. The power of BBM has always been the active, real conversations and interaction that our customers enjoy," said Andrew Bocking, Executive Vice President of BBM at BlackBerry. "From here on out, we will focus on active users of BBM and will no longer focus on simple download numbers."
With the BBM community now at more than 80 million active users around the globe, users are connecting on the private social network like never before. This past weekend, BlackBerry was able to remove the virtual line-up so that Android and iPhone users can now immediately download, sign in and start using BBM without having to wait.
BBM users are enjoying the immediacy and control that BBM offers as they chat with their new contacts - either one-to-one, in multi-person chats or as part of a BBM Group. The delivered and read statuses, as well as the message-in-progress alert, keep people engaged and active in conversations on BBM. BBM users can also share files such as photos, and voice notes, as well as update their statuses with ease. BBM Groups allows photo, calendar, chat and file sharing for up to 30 people in a user-generated community.
Every BBM user has a unique PIN that helps maintains their privacy, so users never have to give out their phone number or email address to a new or casual contact. BlackBerry ID connects with a person's PIN, BBM contact list and services to make device switching quick and easy. The BBM experience will continue to evolve. In the coming months, BlackBerry will deliver BBM Video calling, BBM Voice calling and BBM Channels - a new community building service to connect BBM users even more broadly - to Android and iPhone users.
Android and iPhone device users can download BBM by visiting BBM.com.[ Szerkesztve ]

A BlackBerry legnagyobb részvényese, a kanadai Prem Watsa által vezetett konzorcium 9 USD/részvény-es ajánlatot tett a cégre, melyet a BlackBerry elfogadott.
BlackBerry has signed a letter of intent with Fairfax Financial that means the company could soon be sold in a $4.7 billion deal. While a letter of intent isn't a binding contact, it does bode well for BlackBerry and, if everything pans out, could mean BlackBerry will go private in the very near future.
Press Release
BlackBerry shareholders would receive U.S. $9 per share in cash
Transaction valued at approximately U.S. $4.7 billion
Consortium permitted 6 weeks to conduct due diligence
BlackBerry entitled to go-shop during due diligence period, subject to payment of a termination fee in the event alternative offer accepted. The RIMpire fights back!

Elolvastam a teljes közleményt. Azt is írják, h a Z30 megjelenésével a Z10-et szeretnék majd a jövõ héttõl a szélesebb közönség számára elérhetõvé tenni ( árcsökkentés???)
Illetve ami meghökkentö volt számomra, h szinte alig megy a BB10-es teló, 3,7 m db leszállítottból marginális a BB10 részaránya. Ugyanakkor a céges oldalon nõ a tesztelõ/telepítõ cégek száma.
Ha jól értelmeztem, akkor az üzemi veszteség majd teljes egésze készletleírás (egyszeri tétel)
Hát ennyi...

SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- BlackBerry Ltd. (BBRY) warned Friday afternoon that its revenues for the second fiscal quarter will come in far below Wall Street's expectations, due to slumping sales of its newest smartphones. The company said it expects to report revenue of about $1.6 billion for the quarter, compared to $3.04 billion that was expected by analysts, according to consensus estimates from FactSet. It also expects a GAAP net operating loss in the range of $950 million to $995 million for the quarter, with about 3.7 million smartphones shipped in the period. BlackBerry also said it intends to focus on the enterprise and "prosumer" market, so will reduce its planned future device portfolio from 6 handsets to 4, which will include 2 high-end devices and 2 entry-level products. The company also confirmed that it plans to lay off 4,500 employees; that news leaked out earlier in the week. BlackBerry shares were halted Friday afternoon, down 2.4% to $10.27 before the news.

Egy friss bejelentés (bár a pletyka már megvolt múlt hét végén...)
BlackBerry Board of Directors Announces Exploration of Strategic Alternatives
WATERLOO, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - Aug. 12, 2013) - BlackBerry Limited (NASDAQBRY)(TSXB), a world leader in the mobile communications market, today announced that the Company's Board of Directors has formed a Special Committee to explore strategic alternatives to enhance value and increase scale in order to accelerate BlackBerry 10 deployment. These alternatives could include, among others, possible joint ventures, strategic partnerships or alliances, a sale of the Company or other possible transactions.
The Special Committee of the Board is comprised of Barbara Stymiest, Thorsten Heins, Richard Lynch and Bert Nordberg, and will be chaired by Timothy Dattels.
With the announcement of the Special Committee, Prem Watsa, Chairman and CEO of Fairfax Financial informed the Company that he felt it was appropriate to resign due to potential conflicts that may arise during the process. Fairfax Financial is the largest BlackBerry shareholder. Mr. Watsa said, "I continue to be a strong supporter of the Company, the Board and Management as they move forward during this process, and Fairfax Financial has no current intention of selling its shares."
"During the past year, management and the Board have been focused on launching the BlackBerry 10 platform and BES 10, establishing a strong financial position, and evaluating the best approach to delivering long-term value for customers and shareholders," said Timothy Dattels, Chairman of BlackBerry's Special Committee of the Board. "Given the importance and strength of our technology, and the evolving industry and competitive landscape, we believe that now is the right time to explore strategic alternatives."
Thorsten Heins, President and Chief Executive Officer of BlackBerry, added, "We continue to see compelling long-term opportunities for BlackBerry 10, we have exceptional technology that customers are embracing, we have a strong balance sheet and we are pleased with the progress that has been made in our transition. As the Special Committee focuses on exploring alternatives, we will be continuing with our strategy of reducing cost, driving efficiency and accelerating the deployment of BES 10, as well as driving adoption of BlackBerry 10 smartphones, launching the multi-platform BBM social messaging service, and pursuing mobile computing opportunities by leveraging the secure and reliable BlackBerry Global Data Network."
JP Morgan Securities LLC is serving as financial advisor to BlackBerry and Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP and Torys LLP are serving as legal advisors.
There can be no assurance that this exploration process will result in any transaction. The Company does not currently intend to disclose further developments with respect to this process, unless and until its Board of Directors approves a specific transaction or otherwise concludes the review of strategic alternatives.
