  Sony Ericsson Zoe – a clamshell for the youth
  
  
  The second “leakage” of today from company’s presentation on January 25 is the Zoe. It’s a clamshell for young people to replace Sony Ericsson Z500, which didn’t come out to the market. The start price for the Zoe will make up some $200 in August. There are two color screens: the internal doesn’t have brilliant specs, just 65K colors, TFT and 128x160 pixels. The device has acquired the support of 3D games (there is no separate accelerator), PTT and a VGA-camera. For the first time the company has extended contact settings with a small video clip to be assigned, in addition to a photo. The phone book has got an additional area called Presence, which is used in IM service. The youth style is expressed in Style-Up panels, attached on front and back sides. The kit includes one extra Style-Up panel. The company has added changing backlight for the keyboard for the first time, the user can chose the color he likes, for example, change blue for red. The Zoe features 40-tones polyphony, which has become traditional for the company recently. The developers tried to make the Zoe the first model supporting 3D SMS, but it hasn’t happened, this function we will see in another model of this class. Naturally, the device supports EDGE. In all, we have a nice and quite simple solution. This is a good assortment model. We’ll see the official announcement soon.
  
  Sony Ericsson Ellen – the first acquaintance with a charming stranger
  
  
  
  Well, in the Internet eventually appeared early pictures of Sony Ericsson Ellen, our regular readers are familiar with it for a long time. It’s the device for young people with a good set of features of today. This is one of two phones of 2005, in which Sony Ericsson applied its new gaming concept. Everybody is already familiar with the devices, which work in two modes: the phone mode, the camera mode (landscape). In this case the developers made a step forward and added gaming functionality, above the screen are the buttons, which stand for A-B like in game consoles. For the gamers the company provided the support of 3D games, there is an integrated 3D-accelerator.
  
  Like in the S700 the Ellen features Jack Knife mechanism, a version of Rotator with horizontal opening. It’s an attractive fashion solution, there is no auto closer, but a not big device gets open easily. The second feature of the youth design is Style-Up panels, so you can change the look of the phone very quickly. The kit traditionally contains one bright panel and one monotone classic panel.
  
  The phone is equipped with a 1.8” 176x220 262K color TFT screen. For the first time the company added two stereo speakers, besides there is MegaBass function, which becomes standard for all models. If you ask me about an mp3 player in this phone, I’d answer, there is one. But the fact is that the company didn’t installed an expansion slot for memory cards to this modes not to make competition with the K750 and another music device Ophira. There are just 32 MB of memory onboard. The situation with the full mp3 support is like in Sony Ericsson K700. As for the nice details, the phone supports EDGE, Bluetooth, 1.3-megapixel camera, Push to Talk and 40-tones polyphony. Curiously, the device initially should have had a VGA camera and 72-tones polyphony. That’s how the things stand with the functionality. The PC connection runs via USB 2.0 protocol. Content providers will get interested that the Ellen supports OMA DRM Phase 1 in full.
  
  The official announcement will take place soon, the sales will start in early autumn. The price will make up some $300-330, but it will drop to $250 quickly.
