Multimedia, data transfer
The 1.3 megapixel camera on the back is no big deal. It has fixed focus, no flash, there are only a few settings, but this performance doesn’t even need much settings. If the weather is good then the pictures are not so bad, but if there is darkness then the camera goes dead and we can take only noise-maps instead of pictures. Below you can see a couple of test images. This Sony Ericsson cannot record videos.
In musical terms the phone is practically zero; although we can use MP3 files as ringtones, but since the amount of free memory is 10 MB in the best case, and it cannot be expanded, there is no music player either.
It’s not needed anyway; no one expects it for this amount of money. However, there is a nice little FM radio, which has RDS support too; reception quality is surprisingly good, so we can add a bonus point for this. There is no TrackID this time, but I think the target users won’t be missing it. There is some Live demo at the games and there are full version apps too: JC Does Texas (a guy has to be launched from a cannon in order to hit as much special objects as possible) and QuadraPop (Tetris clone with musical notes).
3G support won’t be missed either, although including EDGE wouldn’t have been such a big deal. The browser is of version 2.0, it can display only WAP pages, but this is no wonder on such a screen. It’s good, however, that there is Bluetooth support, it can be used for sending files and for using headsets, both features work properly.
The battery is based on Lithium-Polymer technology, its capacity is 780 mAh. It’s strange, but compared to my expectations it is a bit of a disappointment, as in spite of the fact that it’s quite hard to produce any kind of power-hungry activity, it still went offline every other day. Still, this might be due to the 1-1.5 hours of talk per day.
Summary. It was okay for €40 EUR. Assembly quality is great and we shouldn’t expect anything else of it. I wouldn’t choose this now, after looking at the other phones at a similar price and we also have Sagem my411V at an extremely low price and this doesn’t seem a bad choice now. Design, however, is better in the case of T280. It’s quite cheap, it doesn’t have much features, but it shows much more. This will surely win some customers.
