In his interview for German Reuters, Howard Stringer, CEO of Sony has been asked if they are planning to break up with Ericsson or to liquidate Sony Ericsson. He said that it's not easy to buy a partner out of a common business. Sony has decreased their planned profit for this year with 17 percent in March, because besides the weak performance of the electronics department of Sony, Sony Ericsson also had a weak quarter. According to Sony's leader they will need a serious cooperation with Ericsson or the subsidiary will have to do on its own. So it currently looks like if Sony Ericsson won't get itself together then the cooperation of Sony and Ericsson might end, but it is also possible that it will exist as a separate company, independently of the parent companies.
