Sony Ericsson T700 - metal dream

Introduction, packaging

A while ago I have liked Sony Ericsson handsets a lot. My latest phone was also from them, it was K750i, so it hasn’t been acquired recently, the poor thing has been on the shelf for years. But nowadays, I don’t like them very much. I think their lower mid-range handsets have stayed on the level from a couple of years before, and furthermore they don’t have that typical SE feeling, which has been characteristic of the Japanese-Swedish handsets a while ago. Maybe K530i has been the last one that had some positive impressions on me, as although it hasn’t been quite innovative, nor did it have lots of features, but it has been perfect for what it has been designed for. Just like the subject of our current review, T700.

Judging the design, or talking about beauty in general is a topic that comes up all the times and I’d like to comment upon it now. It is sure that judging such things is one of the most subjective matters regarding gadgets. Still, when I have received this phone, new ideas have popped into my mind: yes, one can do a phone that is liked by almost everyone. Most of us have an image of how does the Mobile Phone look like, the phone that is perfect for satisfying our needs. And suddenly I have been enlightened: such a handset has to be a candybar. There are lots of people who are fans of clamshell phones, others like sliders, and there are tons of people who hate stuff with so-called extreme designs – still, I haven’t even heard of anyone who would say: I hate the classical design. And then the recipe becomes simple: compact size, high-quality materials, good assembly quality, ergonomics, and style. And so the perfect phone design is born: even though not everyone likes it, but nine out of ten people surely do. The other one just sticks too much to his/her favorite brand.

The phone has been shipped by MGSM, thanks. It came in a box made of a transparent and extremely thin plastic, so we can see the handset even in the box, and we can also see a Vodafone-red paper box with the accessories and the inevitable user manual inside. At first I’ve thought that this is an operator branded phone, but no, this is the factory default package. The accessories that come with T700 are a headset made of two parts, a 512 MB memory card, a charger and a data cable.
