Samsung L700 - the silver mean

Exterior

Flat box, foil on everything, nicely arranged accessories, a pile of papers. Yes, it’s a Samsung. Besides the phone there is a white headset, a data cable, a charger and a CD, so nothing extra until now, but this is completely normal for this money. Then we get to see the phone itself and here come the first acknowledgments: the phone is made of metal, and real, massive, metal-like and metal-colored metals are dominant.

A classic design, not the slider/clamshell form factor that’s characteristic of the manufacturer, it’s the type of phone that a child would draw if someone tells him to sketch up a phone, kid. Half of the front is the display, half is the keypad, just like we’re used to it. It might remind a bit of X700, there’s nothing unnecessary, simplicity and logics are the keywords.

It’s nice, so did the people say. I also think so. What is made of simple, but noble materials can really be nice. It’s elegant, so did the same people say and they are right again. The secondary camera above the screen tells everyone that the handset has 3G support, the keypad is easy to use and has a logical layout. My only problem was the bit too small center of the navigation ring, which is unfortunately sunk, so we have to get used to how it’s used comfortably. Everything else is practically flawless.

We can see the volume control keys on the left and the well-known Samsung data connector, which makes us to have a negative comment: it would be really time to start using microUSB. In the center right there is the camera’s hotkey with the covered microSD slot below it – well, this is plastic and it doesn’t look that heavy-duty.

The back is a piece of brushed metal, it rattles nicely when dropped on the table. There is a hole for the camera and the flash and they have written 2 megapixel on it. There is no mirror, I have been missing it a bit, as not matter the metal surface, my head won’t be mirrored. Assembly? It’s flawless. It really is.
