HTC Hero - hey, this is the future!

HTC's latest Android handset has the manufacturers Sense UI. We don't need no more Windows Mobile.

Foreword

We have liked T-Mobile G1 a lot. We have loved HTC Magic. And about HTC Hero… we can’t really write down our feelings…

Two years ago such a statement would have resulted in a war, but nowadays almost everyone agrees that it’s in many ways impossible to live up to the operating system on Apple’s iPhone. The two-year old solution bests all other software both in terms of speed, user-friendliness and stability; Nokia’s touch-controlled Series 60, Samsung’s TouchWiz and LG’s S-Class UI are nothing compared to iPhone OS – even in spite the fact that there are huge differences between these three. The whole situation just got funnier, as another giant company has joined the war of mobile phone manufacturers, and this company had nothing to do with cell phones a couple of years ago: yep, we’re talking about Google. The operating system called Android, which is developed together by lots of companies is a decent rival to iPhone’s OS from almost every point of view – it’s just more open in a couple of things.

HTC Hero

This is nothing new until now, many of you might know this, mostly if you’ve already seen an HTC Magic. But the whole story gets more complicated with the launch of our current subject, HTC Hero, as the Taiwanese manufacturer didn’t just provide a hardware for Android this time, but they have enhanced the software as well. And they aren’t bad at this, I’m pretty convinced that the current version of Windows Mobile exists only because of them. (And of course because SPB... - Bog) And now they have been playing around with the nearly perfect Android… you can’t get anything bad from that.

HTC Hero

The handset has been provided by SpeedShop; the box is quite small and very demanding, it has a headset, a data cable, a charger, a manual, a 2 GB microSD card and an 8 cm installation CD inside, besides the phone of course. This means that unfortunately we get no carrying case with our new Hero.
