Software, internet
As for the basic applications (calculator, stopwatch, timer, alarm clock, etc.) we might only miss the unit- and currency converter, but in turn we have quite a good set of extra software, at least if compared to the previous handset. Google applications (Maps, Talk, Gmail, YouTube) are of course present, there’s no wonder that we can see the icon of Android Market, but we might be surprised about what HTC prepared for us. The list of treats includes that, as opposed to Magic, Hero won’t force us to register on Gmail, we can use the phone on first boot with the exception of Android Market – on Magic we couldn’t even access the calendar without a Google account.
The first extra is Footprints, which lets us attach geo-tags to our pictures, wonderful. The PDF-reader could be much more useful, just like the app called Peep which is not one made for voyeurs, but we can feed Twitter with it. The fact that we have QuickOffice installed is just great, even though this is the read-only version, so we can’t create new documents or edit existing ones. Besides these we will also see a stock application, a weather forecast and a sound recorder. As for the games, we can play with our old favorite, Teeter.
Browsing the web is a pleasant experience on the handset, since the MiniMap browser is great, and this is the only part besides the image viewer where we can use multi-touch. The browser’s speed – I mean page load time and scroll/zoom speed as well – is almost as good as iPhone’s Safari, but much, much better than anything else.
