Camera, radio
The camera is sitting quite deep on the back of the phone, which is good, since the plexi is hard to damage, but it takes a man to take out the dust from there. Anyway, it doesn’t matter that much, since the 1.3 megapixel fix focus lens is no big deal, and although the resolution and the Sony Ericsson logo are written horizontally, we don’t have to rotate the camera in order to take pictures. There are very few options, there are some effects and frames, we can set white balance and that’s it. The software is a champion of slowness, you press the button, there is a small pause, you hear the clap (exposure sound), than there is a long pause and finally you get to see the picture. If we’d like to avoid the pictures getting blurry we should really be patient after we here the camera sound, as this is when the picture is being taken. Test pictures below, I think there is no commentary needed:
As a main attraction we have this radio. Well, first let’s observe that the stereo headset inside the box is not a conventional one. There is nothing extra on the end that goes into our ears, but the lump that connects to the headset is a bit larger than usual. No wonder, this is where the AM receiver is, so if we don’t use this accessory we have to stick to FM stations only.
The radio can run in the background, this is no wonder, it supports RDS, this has been expected as well. If we close the phone, the five buttons on the front become active: we can change stations with the ones placed one above the other, while the three others can be bound to preset stations. Volume can be set with the buttons on the side. Sound quality is surprisingly good on handsfree, we shouldn’t discuss if these speakers are stereo or not, I think it doesn’t really matter. It works and it’s good. Theoretically we can enable concert sounding and bass boosting, but I didn’t observe much difference.
There are two services related to the radio, the first is the well-known TrackID, which tries to find out the artist and title of the currently played track on the radio, the information being downloaded from the Internet. The other feature is sound recording: we can create MP3 recordings of the radio broadcast, which can be set as a ringtone later on, but we are limited, as the phone’s memory cannot be expanded, and the internal memory is only 5 MB large.
Because of this there is no music player, but the handset supports MP3 ringtones. There are profiles and vibration is powerful enough to feel it when the phone is in our pocket.
