Menu, basic functions
This time the menu is Sony Ericsson’s own, it doesn’t have much stuff that we haven’t seen before a million times. There is no problem with speed, the layout is the usual, the main menu has nine icons, there are four themes to change the colors, we still have the quick menu that can be accessed with the key below the green button, and that’s about it. The nine icons have changed a bit: as opposed to similarly priced phones the alarm clock is now under the organizer functions and the radio has a dedicated menu.
The phone book can now store 1000 names and 2500 data in total, so we can have 2.5 additional infos per contact on average. Lots of extra information can be entered for contacts, these are displayed on a tabbed interface, so it’s easy to navigate between them. Although R306 is a cheap phone, I am very grateful that they didn’t use the simplified contact list from a T280 or K330.
We have nothing new at messaging either, there is no email client, only SMS and MMS messages are supported. Text entry is not too easy, due to the flat keypad, the editor is the usual, the only thing that has changed is that we can’t create a new MMS if the appropriate settings are not configured, since we couldn’t send it anyway.
The calendar has the usual interface, it has month and week views, we can store repeating entries. The alarm clock handles more alarm times (this also makes it better than K330), it works even when the phone is turned off. The usual trio of calculator, stopwatch and timer are present, but there is no code memory again, and this time we have no unit converter or world clock either.
