C905 can be turned on by long-pressing the end call key. As for me I have been prepared to face the usual Sony Ericsson menu and at first I didn’t observe anything special, but as I have been playing with the phone in my hands some trees have started running on the screen. This is because one of the themes has a standby screen that uses the gyroscope to change its state. If you don’t like it (still, everyone liked it, this is the “Dusk setting”) then you can choose “Morning glisten” where there is a light effect moving on the display when tilting the phone, or there’s “Cyber-Shot” which displays pictures on the phone.
The themes look cool again; we can set all kinds of them from the main menu, which can be displayed in a list, icon or roundabout view. When setting the wallpaper we have one more option: this aligns photos from the camera album on a 3x3 grid, and it raises a couple of them – this is called “Slideshow Wall” by Sony Ericsson. From here there’s no other extra at first glance, we have the mature platform, it’s fast, logical and easy to use.
I didn’t find any surprises in the phonebook. Although the capacity of 1000 contacts is enough for most people, they still could have doubled it at a top model. Contacts can be sorted by first and last name, and we can enter tons of additional information as usual. This information is displayed on a tabbed interface in order to be more transparent.
Everything’s all right with messaging as well. SMS and MMS have the same editor, but if we start attaching multimedia contents the text message of course becomes an MMS. We can play with the keys easily, the software provides all possible support, smileys are easy to access, T9 works as usual and the handset nicely displays the number of typed characters. Messages in the inbox can be sorted by sender, date, size and category and we can even export the whole thing to the memory card.
There is a wizard to help us set up the email client, it’s very simple to use. The list of features includes SMTP authentication and attachment support; we can even send/receive attachments that are not supported by the phone. The size limit is 10 megabytes, after attaching the fifth 5 MB large picture the phone gave me an error.
