Samsung G800 - metal camera

Video and others

The G800 received a load of criticism already after its first presentation because there has been a step taken back compared to the G600 regarding video recording. The latter recorded videos in VGA resolution, but our current subject is capable of only the quarter of this, namely a resolution of 240x320 pixels, although it’s true that this is accompanied by a refresh rate of 30 fps. Test video here.

According to Samsung it is right and proper to ship such a 5 megapixel camera with a built-in image editing software. This helps us in putting frames and effects on out photos, rotating them, theoretically we can correct the red-eye effect too and there are some clip arts we can put on the pictures and last but not least texts can also be inserted anywhere on the image. After 2 minutes of hard work I have succeeded in creating the following masterpiece:

The other software is the video editor. Based on its design I have expected something professional-like, but all we can do with it is to mix a video with a music track and to append pictures and movies one after the other. And that’s all. I think it’s completely useless.

Let’s note in a sentence that there is a dictaphone which is capable of recording 5 minutes of sound (which is incomprehensible; why can’t we use the whole memory for this?) but it’s unfortunately inaccessible during conversations. Interestingly there are no games on the handset; of course there is Java support if we would need them, so there is the possibility to download one in case we want to play. There will surely be room for a few on the 160 MB internal memory. The phone has a great sound quality by the way, there were no problems, and the loudspeaker is fine too.
