Nokia 5800 - late, but great

There is a 3.2 megapixel Carl-Zeiss camera on the back, and just to give it some company there is a double-LED flash as well. When pressing the camera button on the side, the full-screen viewfinder is launched and we can access tons of settings when tapping on the icons on the edge of the screen. There are lots of preset modes (macro, portrait, landscape, sport, etc.) we can set edge sharpness, ISO sensitivity, white balance, contrast, there is a self timer, a grid, all kinds of effects and exposure correction. The resolution is 3.2 megapixels and of course the camera has autofocus.

When taking a look at the test images we can figure it out that the software won’t blur photos very much, but there is an above-average amount of image noise. We might correct this by tampering with the ISO setting, the following images were taken using automatic settings:

When browsing the pictures we can see that the Finnish guys wanted to create something really spectacular, but no matter the shiny and cool display, if picture browsing and zooming takes long seconds. Regarding videos there is no DivX support yet, the phone didn’t play avi and mpeg4 files. The second element of the multimedia hotkey is the image gallery, the first takes us to the musical functions.

This part is really good. 5800 has a sound quality on handsfree that we didn’t experience on a Nokia before. It’s loud, it’s not distorted, it’s really awesome for a phone. The music player can display an album cover, the tracks are sorted by ID3 tags. There is a nine-band equalizer, bass boosting, I didn’t miss a thing. The headset is an average one, but since it can be taken apart, and there is a standard jack on the phone as well, we can use any other one with no problem.

The radio is finally missing the unnecessary web extras. Huge buttons, large text, RDS and great reception quality are characteristic, this is how it has to be done. Of course we have to plug the headset in, as this is the antenna. At games we can find Bounce and Global Race Racing Thunder. Both are quite lame, the first has to be controlled with our fingers, the second is controlled by tilting the phone, and it’s so sensitive that there is no chance completing a track, even though I’ve been playing TM forever nowadays.
