Due to the limitations of the Juix platform, there is no 3G support. GPRS and EDGE can’t really make up for this, but the big hit of VE66 is that it has WLAN support. Even more, it can even do media synchronization through WiFi networks. It connected to my home router, it had no problem with WPA encryption, but unfortunately the browser failed and had only error messages to show.
The phone can be charged with the supplied USB cable and the memory card’s contents are displayed as an external drive. Bluetooth is at version 2.0, it’s of course stereo and it’s no wonder that it connected to my Motorola car handsfree, but on the other hand it perfectly communicated with my Philips phone and my PC as well.
The battery doesn’t perform very well, it went down in two days, but it recharged in two days. This is signaled by a green LED above the display, and when charging is complete the software pops up a window to tell us that the charger should be disconnected in order to save power.
On the whole I have to say that the handset that costs about 235 euros in official Motorola stores is quite a mixed product. It’s sure that the software should be refined a lot, the phone has sometimes disconnected from the network without any kind of warning. The system is fast from time to time, it’s sometimes annoyingly slow, but it has a very logical design. Assembly quality is also mediocre, I can’t say anything bad about the materials used, but the sliding mechanism might be problematic. There is a huge bonus point awarded for the WLAN support, the long list of accessories and the clever keypad lock.
It’s evident that Motorola VE66 is a very unique handset. That’s why one can love it, although I would never recommend it as a primary phone, but fans of the manufacturer won’t be disappointed if they don’t need 3G. Basically I’ve put a Cool product award here, but I didn’t see the test pictures yet. That’s what made me take the decision.
