Basic functions
The complexity of the contact list is laudable, each contact can have so many additional information that this should be enough for anyone. We can even define the contact’s spouse, children’s name and colleagues’ name, but we should put there too much stuff as the phonebook can store only 1000 contacts. I’ve been almost crying in happiness as I saw the option of storing new contacts on the SIM card as well, this is a very useful feature.
There are no problems with messaging either. It’s a great thing that when displaying messages the software has a great font, it’s easy to have a look at them. Typing is aided by the good old Motorola iTAP, which is the best of all predictive systems, it learns automatically and it doesn’t want to type something that I would have never thought of. There is a wizard to help us set up the email client, if we have an account at a known operator than the POP3 and SMTP servers are set up automatically after entering our address and password.
The calendar might be the only place which somewhat reminds us of the design we’ve seen on Motorola V3, but we cannot complain about the features, it’s a really complex application, it has lots of entry types and reminders with tons of parameters. The alarm clock supports three alarm times, but we can define separate days for the alarms. The calculator is a basic one and according to the ancient Motorola customs, there is no stopwatch or timer.
