Basic functions
The contact list cannot be accessed with a single keypress. This annoyed me a lot, no matter if we’re coming from the main screen or the menu, we always get to see the phonebook’s menu where we have to press search. We get the contact list only after that, which is handled a bit slowly by the system. A contact can have many phone numbers, an email address, a birthday, an image, a ringtone and a note. Contact information is displayed under the contact name on a tabbed interface, which is a very smart thing.
Messaging is basically ruined by the hard keypad, which makes typing a rather bad experience. And we should also add that the special characters are not exactly where we would expect them to be. The SMS and MMS editors have the same interface; of course a multimedia attachment is what converts the whole thing to an MMS. Besides the quite basic email client (okay, it has support for authenticated SMTP) there is a separate Bluetooth messaging function, which is exactly what you can tell from its name. We type some text in a simple editor and then it’s theoretically sent via Bluetooth to a nearby phone.
It’s unfortunate that the little LG signals incoming events only when they happen, later on we won’t figure out on the dark screen that something has happened. The internal memory can store 1000 phonebook entries, 500 SMS messages and almost 15 MB of other stuff, which is not much but it can be expanded. Unfortunately there is no microSD card in the package, although nowadays it’s no big deal (even more for a manufacturer).
