The 5 megapixel camera is very promising. LG has already proven with KU990 that they can be a surprise in this matter, so no wonder that people expect a lot of KC550 too. But it fails. I took tons of pictures, I’ve been tampering with the ISO setting (50-800), with preset modes, I set resolution and image quality to the max, but unfortunately the images you can see below prove that compared G600 the lower price results in lower quality too.

When looking at the test pictures the most striking are the lack of colors and the weak blur that covers the whole picture and when zoomed to full size we can also see that small details are discarded by the software. The images might even seem pixelated at some places, so the result was a great disappointment for me. Of course I took a look at images taken by others too, but those weren’t much better either.
Still, the menu system is quite fine, the camera is immediately activated upon sliding the lens cover open, and settings are shown in a beautiful table. The autofocus has no macro mode; it can’t take sharp pictures from very close. Exposure is fast and the photos look good on the display. The motion sensor is also used in the gallery, as the photos are rotated according to the handset’s position – just like on iPhone.
KC550 can record videos too, at a maximum resolution of 720 x 480 pixels (WVGA). In this case we can use a speed of 15 fps, but if we use simple CGA mode then we can record at 30 fps too. There is a software that can be used for fun at most, this is used for creating short movies of different moods from the pictures we have taken.
Not much to tell about the music. The MP3 player is rather simple, but it can run in the background, there is an equalizer (with presets); tracks can be sorted by ID3 tags. It observes files on the memory card only if they are in the appropriate directory. The graphical interface of the player displays a realtime spectrum analyzer, it has no other extras. The built-in FM radio works with the headset, which is no big deal. The headset of G600 is much better. The radio doesn’t support RDS, but at least it has automatic tuning. But it can’t run in the background, this is quite lame.
