Hitachi, KDDI, Samsung, Toshiba and Sony Ericsson have announced today that the TransferJet consortium has been founded in order to design the TransferJet high-speed data transfer technology. The aim of the new wireless standard is to provide an easy and fast transfer of large music, video and image files between electronic devices.

TransferJet technology can provide a speed of even 560 megabits per second, and it doesn't use complex connection protocols. It's enough to place two devices near each other (at most 3 cm) and transfer can start automatically. It's enough to place the digital camera near the television in order to view the pictures, or we just have to place the cell phone near a portable music player to transfer music tracks.

TransferJet can be a unified industry standard on the market of different electronic products. TransferJet Consortium currently has the following members:
- Sony Corporation (”TransferJet Consortium” Administration)
- Canon Inc.
- Eastman Kodak Company
- Hitachi Ltd.
- Victor Company of Japan (JVC)
- KDDI Corporation
- Kenwood Corporation
- Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd. (Panasonic)
- Nikon Corporation
- Olympus Imaging Corporation
- Pioneer Corporation
- SAMSUNG ELECTRONICS CO., LTD.
- Seiko Epson Corporation
- Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications
- Toshiba Corporation
