High-speed mobile internet is not very wide-spread in China yet, which is mostly due to slow decisions of the state. Although the deployment of 3G networks is soon to start, market analyzers claim that Chinese network operators won't invest billions and they will simply adopt 4G, skipping 3G networks. UMB (Ultra Mobile Broadband), developed from CDMA solutions, has seemed to have a chance for a long time, opposed to LTE and WiMAX technologies, but now LTE still seems to become much more preferred. According to China Telecom's CEO the 3G standard EV-DO might have a chance in the short term, but UMB, preferred by CDMA providers, is almost sure to be cancelled, so both GSM and CDMA networks will be developed to LTE. This decision is a very important moment, as this would practically make LTE the world champion, as the largest European and American network operators have chosen LTE since a long time ago, since it provides a continuous development and decreasing costs. Thus the 3G TD-SCDMA solution should be considered as a short-term solution in China, which will be replaced by a completely standardized high-speed solution in a couple of years.
