Let's start with the most important thing: there is scrolling! Not only in the Samsung phonebook and the application list, but everywhere from the Start menu to the Windows phonebook! The programmers did a great job, as it's a smooth and sensitive one without lags, it's clearly as least as good as SPB Pocket Plus 4.0, that has been the measure until now. The screen rotation animation has been changed too, we can now choose any of the six themes, each of them being very spectacular. The internal memory size has also changed, we now have almost 60 MB of free ROM, which is 23 MB of bonus compared to the previous version. Unfortunately there is no considerable speed increase, the graphics benchmark of Pocket PC Mark had a 5 percent better score, everything else remained unchanged - although I would be astonished if they could increase the marks for memory and file system.
Let's see the video of rotation and scrolling, I'm sorry about the quality, but I only had a G810 to use.
There have been lots of questions regarding phone calls and messaging. I had ideas for these parts too, but unfortunately Samsung couldn't implement most of these as the operating system has serious limitations regarding these features. In case of incoming calls we can see a picture similar to the one below, the call screen can be accepted both with the keys on the touchscreen and the hardware buttons and I think it's impossible to tap the screen accidentally. Omnia reacts to incoming text messages just like any other WM-based phone, so it pops up a small screen that doesn't disturb other running programs - of course if we're watching a fullscreen video then that will be minimized, but no other unpleasant things will happen. The screen won't turn off automatically during phone calls, but brightness is reduced and of course the screen is locked, which can be undone by pressing the center key - after a while the screen is of course turned off to avoid battery power waste. By the way the phone can be charged via USB too.
That's all for now, I'll be back this week with another post about the headset, Touch Player and hopefully about navigation too.
