Samsung has officially announced its Symbian based-based smartphone today, i8510, equipped with an 8 megapixel camera. The Korean manufacturer has made its first 5 megapixel phone already in 2004, which has been followed by a 7 megapixel model in 2006 and then a 10 MP one, although these weren't available in Europe. i8510, however, is coming to Europe too in August and thus being much faster than Sony Ericsson C905 Cyber-shot that has a similar camera. The Korean manufacturer, however, promises other things too.

Although there are only two high-power LED flashes besides the 8 megapixel CMOS camera, but there are such features like smile- and face-recognition, blink shot and video recording at 640 x 480 pixels (30 fps) or 320 x 240 pixels (120 fps). The recordings can be later edited easily in Movie Maker or Story Board. The smartphone, based on Symbian Series 60 3rd Edition Feature Pack 3, has a 2.8", 240 x 320 pixels display, 16 GB of internal memory, a microSDHC slot, Bluetooth 2.0 and WLAN module, EDGE and HSDPA support, a GPS receiver and a stereo FM radio.

Besides the numerous music and video formats, the phone can also play back DivX videos, the sound experience being provided by the 3D stereo speakers. The 106.65 x 53.9 x 17.2 mm large handset has gravitational sensors and an optical mouse too, which provide a comfortable use and browsing experience with the help of the full HTML browser. The handset has a 1200 mAh battery that provides 8 and a half hours of talk time on GSM networks. The price of Samsung i8510 is not yet known.
