I am happy to announce that at the beginning of this week I've sent my long wish-list to Samsung. This might be the reason for which no software update has arrived since then, so I'm pretty excited about the next one.
Rotated Samsung menu
You might have guessed that this post will be a bit shorter than the previous ones, as I will try to focus only on the questions You have asked. I'd like to begin with the phone's video recording capabilities. Omnia can record videos at 640 x 480 pixels (VGA resolution) at a speed of 15 frames/second - the magical 30 fps is available only in QVGA mode. As neither the hardware, nor the software is final, there is no use to come to some serious conclusions after watching the two test videos. It's visible that it's not perfect yet, the first video stops for a while. Light metering is surely center-weighted or spot, but it's not so good that the phone can't focus to a short-range, so there is no macro mode. The two videos: test video 1 (3.81 MB), test video 2 (1.59 MB).
There has been a lot of questions on the Hungarian forums about the the phone and it's screen with a unique resolution. There would be no use talking about software compatibility yet, I can only say that some programs run without a problem (like the ancient Pocket PC Mark), while other's won't start up, which might of course be due not only to the display, but to the beta ROM too. iGO 8, however, runs perfectly, with the exception of one small thing: screen rotation doesn't work, but I will ask Samsung about this.
There have been some questions in the English fora too, so I'd like to discuss these too. Last time, at the alarm clock part, I forgot to mention that repetition can be enabled, we can select the days one by one. Stuff related to the user-accessable memory is also constantly changin, in the new software version there is 63 MBfor running programs and only 37 MB for data storage, but since the phone's software is not final, this will change - and it will be a positive change.
Repetition at the alarm clock
I didn't mention until now that there are three tabs on the second Today screen view and we can scroll amongst these like on HTC TouchFLO 3D: Home screen (current time and missed events), speed dial screen (with room for nine contacts) and the settings quick-launch (this also has nine elements).
Most questions are related to launch date and expected price. Unfortunately I can only repeat myself: this information is not public yet, just like the question of Widget expandability. But there is no reason to be sad, as from week to week I can reveal more and more information, as Samsung approves it. So just stand by, keep reading the news and don't forget to ask your questions!
