I must apologize for the delay, I haven't added new blog posts for a while. A reason for this was that Samsung is releasing new ROMs at such a speed that it's hard to keep up with. Although in the beginning they told me that their will be weekly software updates, lately they have been updating every other day, all updates bringing a number of new functions besides optimization. So this time I'll be covering the handset's customizability and a couple of extra functions.
First of all let's see the coolest feature: the flashlight! Yup, it can work as a flashlight, although this is not very characteristic of Pocket PCs. The light source is of course the camera's flash, which has a quite powerful light. At the buttons we can define the key which makes the phone come back from standby - although this is not completely unique, but it's still not characteristic of WM-based handsets.
By the way the Settings page has lots of icons, this shows how many things can be tampered with on the Omnia. Vibrating feedback can be enabled for screen rotation and tapping too, the strength can be set on a scale of five, it's very useful. Brightness can be automatic and the "etiquette", known from HTC Touch Diamond, is also cool, this is the feature that mutes the phone when put it face down in case of an incoming call. Unfortunately there is no scrolling routine in the Windows menus, but knowing the manufacturer I just have to file a complaint in this matter, which I will do after posting this entry!
It is a great thing that since three updates ago the phone can be set to function as a USB Mass Storage device. This way copying a 700 MB XviD file takes less than 10 minutes, which is on one hand fast, and on the other hand... have you been paying attention? XviD. It is supported by default. Next time I'll be writing about this too, but until then have a look at some screenshots of the settings tabs.
