Camera and software

The design already shows that no matter the 3.2 megapixel camera, it’s only there because it has to; it has fixed focus and no flash. We have to keep the phone in a portrait position when taking pictures, the external screen can’t display the image from the viewfinder. Functions are minimal, all the small craps besides image size and quality are not even noteworthy, night mode is useless and the self-timer is surely useful, but I can congratulate anyone who can keep the phone standing on its feet, opened, just to jump in to the picture afterwards. Test pictures below, they’re just like what one could expect after reading the stuff above.

We can find some interesting stuff amongst the applications on the phone. AccuWeather is an old friend, it downloads weather forecast from the net for the city we define, so we can decide whether to go in rubber boots to the Sziget festival the next day or not. The two kinds of world clocks are spectacular, but they don’t really have any practical use, we can rotate a world globe or stare at clocks flying around and showing current times for large cities, wow.

The firs app to make us of the motion sensor is a plain and basic fitness software, which can only count our steps; the software thinks that the healthy number of steps per day is 1000, and it can also show an average based on past days, this is another really important feature for sure. Music Mate sounds all kinds of instruments and it has a drum part in which we hear the sound of four kinds of instruments, based on how we shake the phone. It’s good for driving everyone mad and then we can run to have the 1000 steps for the day.

There are three games installed. Lumines Block Challenge is a tuned up Tetris clone, you can play with it for some time, but it’s not a long experience. Need For Speed has rather nice graphics, but those who want some logic should choose Sudoku, which is nothing else than a Sudoku.

The list of applications includes TrackID (identifies tracks played on the radio with the help of the Internet), and a geo-location thing, which is Google Maps. There is no GPS receiver in the phone, so we can get an estimated picture of our location based on cell information. Another result of this feature is that the software can geo-tag pictures, so we can browse the map for them, but this only works when there is an active internet connection, as Google downloads the necessary database from there.
