Menu, basic functions
W705 has the usual and very logically constructed Sony Ericsson menu. The display is great for using it, it has a good image and it’s also easy to read. Of course it’s not that great in bright sunlight, but it’s not worse than any other average one. There are no new features, but we have the Walkman menu. The phone that turns on rather slow has somehow always declared that my SIM card is defect, even though I had no such problems in any other handset. The card is less than a year old, so it’s a 3 Volt piece.
The phonebook doesn’t have many new things, we can store 1000 contacts, the phone can handle 7000 information entries in total. Usability is great, the amount of data that can be recorded is more than enough for the average user.
As for messaging all kinds are supported: SMS, MMS and we have an e-mail client as well. This last one supports communication with authenticated servers and it has no problem with attachments either. Typing is enhanced by T9.
We can be satisfied with the PIM functions too, the calendar has month and week views and we can record four kinds of entries. We also have a to-do list, a notepad, a timer, a stopwatch, a calculator, the good old code memory and this is where we can turn on the flash to function as a light. The LED isn’t really powerful it can create some light at a distance of about 10 cm.
