Introduction
Nowadays Sony Ericsson is having some hard time. The numbers don’t increase, the cool things they’ve done don’t really keep them in their position. They are in a crisis, together with Motorola, which has been passed by Samsung, while the Japanese-Swedish brand has been pushed back a position by the other Korea giant, LG, so the once third manufacturer is now only fifth. Of course just like in the case of the Americans they keep making crisis plans, but it currently looks that they would need some hit models to turn the tide. The hero of our review has been shipped by MGSM.hu and I first had great expectations, before opening the package, hoping it will have the one phone inside that brings redemption…
This fall didn’t begin nowadays as we’ve been shocked at the 3GSM (predecessor of MWC) in February by the fact that they’ve announced the big hits before the expo and they had nothing new to show in Barcelona, thus being a great disappointment. Last year it looked that there is a light at the end of the tunnel, in the form of XPERIA, but they’ve shown us a non-functional mode and the specs, trying this way to cover the long delay. Unfortunately X1 didn’t become the great success they have been hoping for, and although they have tried to do their best, HTC made the hardware and the Japanese-Swedish developers would have only had to fine-tune the software, but this operation has failed, as by the phone has been launched other manufacturers have already had their own solutions on the market and those weren’t as slow as X1’s panels.
Continuing the “tradition” this year they have again announced a phone that is unfinished, this is Idou (and we think that this name is quite unfortunate, as we could easily read it as “I do you”, which has some negative meanings as well…), which will be launched once, but until then Samsung Omnia HD and Nokia N97 will be on the market, just like those models that haven’t even been announced yet, but they can be launched well before Idou. Sony Ericssson would really, really have to get itself together, as this way things might have a bad ending. Unfortunately W705 won’t bring no redemption, although its specs could make it a successful phone…
