Basic functions
The menu is the same as in the new Sony Ericsson phone phones. 12 icons are placed on the screen, the color and the form of it can be customized by themes. There is five defaults, the display with 176x220 pixels resolution is not too pixeled to prevent designers making something nice on it. The left one of the two buttons under the navigation ring starts the browser, the other one is for the my menu, here the missed events, some bookmarks and a hotkey list placed on an interface separated to tabs. The power and profile-switching button is wedged in between these.
One of the innovations of the W380i is the Gesture Control. It was in the Ericsson R520 too, now it’s up again and they say we will meet it in the W760i too although it isn’t admirably reliable. The bottom of the business is that in case of alarm or incoming call the user have to wave widely with his hand, this is notificated by a small sensor turning on the snooze or muting the ring of the call. I’ve made some pleasant moments for people around me with trying to mute the calls by fervid flailing in front of the phone – less successfully than not.
Allowing for this, you won’t find any radical innovation in the menu. The contact list is fair, it can store 1000 contacts with 2500 numbers, the habit – which is nearly a characteristic of the manufacturer – is here again, it bothers the user until he copies the content of the sim to the memory of the phone. There is no surprise in message handling, SMS, MMS and fortunately email client is available, the force point of the buttons can be felt a bit hard, but the text input won’t make a challenge and T9 is also included for this. Attachments can be attached to emails, it warns at pictures about high resolution and offers reduction. It’s a bit bold for a picture with 1 megapixel resolution with maximal size at about 200KB.
The planner brings the usual, the calendar is nice, the events can reply, warning can be assigned to them. The same is for the alarm, the snooze is 9 minutes long again, the warning can be named. The calculator with basic functions, the stopper and the Sony Ericsson specialty the code memory are also available.
