A closer look
The features of the J750 are exactly the same as the J400’s, except that that’s a clamshell and this is a slider. The design is a mass-produced one; it’s visible at a first glance that it’s a Samsung, although it’s harder to find out the model number, as dozens of similar looking devices exist. The use of materials is specific of the category; the dominant material is the bit shiny and slippery, low to mid quality plastic. The size of the gadget is 99 x 48 x 18.4 mm, and it only weighs 79 grams.
The Samsung logo is placed on top of the frontal part, near that we can find the secondary camera used for video calls, over that the phone speaker. Under this trio the medium quality display is placed, with a diagonal of 1.8” and a resolution of 176 x 220 pixels. Looking below it we can see a sizable area lying fallow, while the field under it yields the keypad, which is possibly genetically engineered as the keys have grown quite large – which has a positive effect on usability. The 4-way navigational ring occupies a central position, it is placed between the function keys and over the call accept/reject and clear buttons. All keys have a white backlight.
The sliding mechanic can be described with the commonly used adjectives, literally: nothing special. We have seen the numeric keypad a few times (many times) before, it’s ease of use is fairly good, but we have seen better solutions too.
The back of the handset lacks any design elements, only two labels act as decors (Samsung and samsungmobile.com). Although I had the opportunity to use the sample device only for a few days, still the first small scratches have already appeared, even though I never start spinning phones on the desk.
On the left side we find the handy volume control buttons and the covered microSD socket.
The other side has a similar layout: on the top there is a shortcut key, while in the lower part the headset/charger connector is placed.
There is nothing on the top side, while the monotony of the bottom part is only broken by the microphone.
