When Nokia acquired Symbian and the Symbian Foundation has been established (having the purpose of creating the unified and open operating system and user interface), it was made clear for everyone that the base of the new user interface will be the Series 60 platform. David Wood, CEO of Symbian, has recently unveiled a couple of details regarding the new platform, and so it turned our that five editions are being developed at the same time. The foundation of the stable and advanced systems will be Seires 60 5th Edition Feature Pack 1 (coming soon), which will be called as Symbian^2 inside the Symbian Foundation. This edition, expected to be finished in terms of functionality by mid-summer, will get some small fixes until the end of the year and this is expected to be the operating system of Sony Ericsson Idou. Symbian^3 and Symbian^4 are only expected by 2010 and 2011.
