Sony Ericsson puts an end to UIQ

Hirdetés

After Nokia has acquired Symbian and Symbian Foundation has been established in order to create a unified and free user interface, it has been already suspected that the life of UIQ is soon coming to an end. On the occasion of Symbian Smartphone Show in London, however, Sony Ericsson has unambiguously acknowledged the downfall of the platform. According to the Japanese-Swedish manufacturer UIQ is not attractive for the networks, the manufacturers or the end users, so they had to stop its decline. The other owner, Motorola, didn't comment on the other party's announcement. Sony Ericsson has recently cancelled two of its Symbian UIQ phones before announcement, which is an evident sign of the manufacturer being committed to the unified user interface of the Symbian Foundation. As opposed to this, Motorola still has some serious plans with the platform and they intend to use it until the unified interface, based on Series 60, will become available.
