The default image viewer of Nokia 5800 XpressMusic has no problems, but it somehow seems to be outdated, it's not as spectacular as rival software and it doesn't make use of the possibilities lying in the touchscreen. Fortunately Nokia Beta Labs always comes up with exciting alternatives, Nokia Photo Browser being the latest of these. The lightning fast application for Series 60 Touch models displays 3 x 5 photos on-screen, navigation being similar to the scrolling routine used by Apple. A photo can be selected by toucing it, while touching it again makes it appear in fullscreen. In this view browsing pictures is done by simple finger motions, while keeping a part of the picture touched makes a virtual maginifier appear, and double-tapping shows the image in original size. When double-tapping on a face the software switches to face browsing, so it displas the image in original size by putting a face in the middle of the screen and we can use our fingers to switch between them. Fullscreen view can be closed by a simple click. On first use the application generates thumbnails, which is a relatively long process, but later on the gallery can be used very quickly. Nokia Photo Browser is available for Nokia 5800 XpressMusic and Nseries N97 from the Nokia Beta Labs website.
