Mobile-Review has recently published an article about the speakers of Nokia 5800 XpressMusic becoming defective after a couple of months. The portal has tested ten phones and proved that the flaw is not a unique case. Vitoria Eremena, PR Director for Nokia Europe and Asia, has officially confirmed the flas and also reported that it affects only models manufactured before February. The problematic part has evidently been the speaker, but the Finnish giant didn't want to reveal the name of the speakers' supplier, all they have told that it's a world-known company. After recognizing the issue the supplier fixed the speakers, but their fault rate has still been too high. The second test of Mobile-Review has shown that the problem still exists, so Nokia finally decided to change its supplier. Nokia 5800 XpressMusic handsets, manufactured after the end of January don't have this fault any more and neither do those speakers that have been changed after the aforementioned date. 5800 XpressMusic is a key product for Nokia, as it had huge sales in December and January as well, while the speakers are changed for free in the warranty period. The speakers from the new supplier are physically different than the previous ones, so they are easy to tell apart from the problematic units. Currently only Nokia can tell, based on the IMEI number, whether a handset has defective speakers or not, but hopefully a dedicated website or hotline will be available soon in order to address the issue.
