Nokia 5800 NAM: With fixed 3G support

Hirdetés

The first touchscreen phone from the Finnish manufacturer to be intended for large-scale sale, Nokia 5800 XpressMusic, had quite a difficult launch, not as it was expected after the long delays. The first known issue has been with the speakers of handsets manufactured before February, as due to a design problem they have been damaged in a couple of months. Since then the Finnish engineers have solved that problem, although this meant that both the speakers and their supplier have been changed. The launch in the United States hasn't been simple either, as the handset has been available for only a couple of days in the New York and Chicago area, as the version of the phone suited for the local 3G frequency (Nokia 5800 NAM) has kept loosing 3G signal and fell back to EDGE or GPRS. According to the first rumors coming from sources close to the manufacturer, the problem was related to the handset's software, not the network, which has been confirmed by Nokia. The new firmware with the fix is unfortunately not yet available via the software update menu on the handset, but Nokia care points can install it on the phone. According to feedback the new software really fixes the 3G issue. According to a press release from the Finnish manufacturer, the Nokia 5800 NAM models will soon be available again at local retailers.
