300 megabit Internet on airplanes

Hirdetés

Using cell phones on board of airplanes is still in a very early phase nowadays. Most airlines ban even turning on the phone aboard their planes and using them is extremely limited and possible only on some planes. Most are against permitting voice-based services, as this would practically make resting impossible during and intercontinental flight. Mobile web access and text messaging would still be interesting. Aircell foresees great possibilities in high-speed Internet access, which would provide passengers access to high-resolution interactive television programs, web-based games, browsing and mailing. Aircell is currently introducing EV-DO 3G technologies, thanks to which they will be able to provide up to 12 megabit Internet access aboard the planes and this could increase to 27.7 megabits by the end of next year. The company is planning to introduce 4G as of 2011, which is based on the LTE (Long Term Evolution) solution, preferred by most network operators. LTE might provide speeds of even 300 megabits per second.
