Qantas launches paper-less, online boarding passes from the beginning of 2009, thus making the boarding procedure faster and simpler. With the online check-in portal passengers get a 2D barcode (QR code) after selecting their seats. This can arrive on their cell phones, laptops or other mobile device. This solution won't be avilable only on local, but also on international flights. Of course the company has also thought of thos who are travelling with luggage, as they can also take advantage of this service, with the additional condition that they have to hand over their luggage, with the help of the code, after arriving to the airport. After Qantas there will probably be lots of other airlines introducing the mobile boarding pass, as with this check-in and boarding procedure will be further simplified and there will be no need of paper either.
