Sony Ericsson PlayNow plus details

The Japanese-Swedish manufacturer has announced its PlayNow plus service, offering unlimited downloads of DRM-free music, the service being first available to Swedish Telenor customers by purchasing the Sony Ericsson W902 plus handset. According to Yahoo! News the service is not tied to the W902 plus phone, but it can be accessed only by the network operator for the price of 99 Swedish krona. After the end of the 6-18 moths contract the users cannot kepp all of the tracks, but 300 favorite ones can stay in the property of the user. The Sony Ericsson PlayNow plus service is coming to Western Europe in Q1 2009 and then worldwide launch is set for the first half of 2009.

The service of the Japanese-Swedish manufacturer is an evident competitor of Nokia's "Comes With Music" that launches on October 17, but there are many distuingishing elements. The Finnish manufacturer provides unlimited music downloads for their handsets that cost 70 GBP more and so the monthly fee is lower than the one of PlayNow plus. The other significant difference is that Nokia offers copy-protected WMA songs which are tied to a phone and a computer, but all songs can be kept after the one-year period and then they can even be moved to a new phone or computer. (According to preliminary information the copy-protection method of the Finnish manufacturer allows five transfers.)
