New Nokia 5800 firmware: The adventures of Sleeping Beauty

Hirdetés

Nokia's press agencies have given news world-wide about the availability of a new Nokia 5800 XpressMusic firmware. Of course many owners were very happy about the news, as the latest Nokia 5800 software was far from being great: the browser is not only slow, but somehow the clipboard doesn't work in it, and in text-boxes on web pages text entry is very slow after a couple of hundreds of characters and instead of line feeding only arrows appear and one cannot edit or copy inside them. The music player also has its flaws, but the worst part is the backup feature of PC Suite, which is as secure as Titanic, but this will become evident only after you want to restore the backup: messages, calendar entries and the contact list are all missing from the save file. This very buggy firmware was version 20.0.012, which has been available since January 26 from the Finnish software update service and now, after more than two months delay, Nokia's marketing personnel has been praising this software, emphasizing the 38-language dictionary, the camera's image sequence feature and faster functionality. The firmware is indeed more stable than the previous version, but it's neither stable or fresh enough to have a press release about it. Or at least this should have been done two months ago.
