Apple iPhone 3G S has been officially announced at WWDC 2009, and, in accordance with earlier rumors, it has the same design as its predecessor, but some things have been changed on the inside. One of the most imporant new features is that the handset has a water-resistant case and a faster processor. There are no technical details available about the new CPU, but we know that the new Safari runs JavaScripts three times faster and the amount of internal memory has doubled, so iPhone 3G S will be available in 16 and 32 GB versions.
Another new features is that the new phone can record 640 x 480 pixels large videos at 30 frames per second with its 3 megapixel autofocus camera and its GPS receiver has been supplied with a digital compass. Besides the support for 7.2 megabit HSDPA another important change is that the handset is now capable of up to 12 hours of GSM talk or 5 hours of 3G talk, 9 hours of WLAN or 5 hours of 3G web browsing, 10 hours of video or 30 hours of music playback.
The new iPhone 3G S has the same size (115.5 x 62.1 x 12.3 mm), but it weighs 2 grams more (135) and it will be available from June 19 in the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Canada, Germany, Italy, Spain and Switzerland, other countries following in July. The new models will be available from AT&T at 199 and 299 dollars, while the old iPhone 3G 8 GB model costs from now on 99 dollars. It is not yet known how will the new handsets be priced in other countries or how much will iPhone 3G's price drop.
