Although Asus hasn't been present at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, they have made up for this at CeBIT in Hannover, as they had a huge stand, where they had mostly Eee PCs, motherboards, gamer notebooks and graphic cards, but we have seen Nüvifone in a corner.
Currently there are two Nüvifones, the first is G60, started by Garmin, and M20, based on Windows Mobile, which is in fact a member of the P series, as that ceased to exist upon the arrival of the Nüvi series. Yes, Nüvi is a series, so we should expect more of these handsets in the future.
At the stand there was a glass panel in front of the M20s, so we couldn't play around with them, and this has its reasons: nowadays it takes lots of effort to create something new on the Windows Mobile platform and Asus probably concentrates on the Linux-based G60m at least that's what we've seen after a couple of minutes of tampering with it. Nüvifone G60 is fast, it's easy to use, we didn't manage to hang it up, we only found a couple of language mistakes, but that's okay with a non-final handset.
G60's specs are no secret. It's based on Linux, it has a quad-band GSM module (850/900/1800/1900 MHz), it supports 3G (850/1900/2100 MHz) and HSDPA (3.6 Mbps), its display has a diagonal of 3.55", WQVGA (272 x 480 pixels) resolution and it's a touchscreen. It has GPS, WiFi, Bluetooth 2.0, 4 GB of internal memory, 128 MB RAM, a 2.5 mm headset jack, a 3 megapixel camera, a 1100 mAh battery, and it has a rather nice size (112 x 58.1 x 14.6 mm, 137 grams). The software ain't bad either, it supports the basic document formats (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, PDF) and its web browser is told to be great. When? It should be launched around Q2-Q3 in our region at an estimated price of 350-500 euros. Of course these aren't facts, but we still highly anticipate the handset!
