Sony Ericsson C702 - Cyber-GPS

Data transfer, battery

At last Sony Ericsson realized that banishing EDGE from previous models wasn’t a bright idea, so C702 supports GPRS, EDGE, UMTS and HSDPA transfers. The built-in browser hasn’t changed since a long time ago; it has landscape view, page breaking by width, zoom and of course HTML support.

At a local level we have 2.0 Bluetooth and USB of the same version number. There were no problems with the first, though the 70-80 KB/s transfer speed is nothing spectacular, while using USB makes the content of the memory card visible as an external drive on our PC. The back cover, that is damn hard to take off, covers a battery that kept the phone online for 2-3 days, but I’m a power user, so generally you should add ~24 hours.

Conclusion. C702 is a great idea with lots of mistakes. It’s not heavy-duty enough (although this could be really confirmed by a durability test) and it’s not Cyber-Shot enough. Anyway it fits well in the series of Sony Ericsson phones; GPS would have had more meaning with proper navigation software, which of course can be acquired optionally – of course only for money. C702 could have been a top phone, as there are very few contestants on the market of heavy-duty phones. All that has to be kept an eye on is pricing, in order to avoid the situation of R250.
