Data transfer, battery
The mobile data communication arsenal is full, the phone supports GPRS, EDGE, UMTS, HSDPA and HSUPA as well, that’s more than we would need in a mid-range phone. HSUPA is a rare thing at this price, although I think it’s not used that much in practice, most people don’t care if their upload speed is 384 kbps or 1.45 Mbit/s. There is no WLAN this time, even though the manufacturer started using it on more and more phones recently.\
At local level we have USB, but we get no cable for that – yeah, there aren’t many accessories inside the box – and there’s also Bluetooth, which needs no wire, but it can come in handy. This has version 2.0 with stereo sound, it worked perfectly and paired in a matter of moments with a Motorola car handsfree kit. There are three games by default on the phone, a Sudoku, the logical game called Bubble Town and NitroStreet Racing which is exactly what you think it is.
Under the less shiny part of the back panel we can find the battery and we finally don’t have to use our nails to access it. The 930 mAh Li-Pol unit kept energy flowing for three days, which is an average performance.
Summary? Well, first it’s price should drop. Second, I welcome the softer keys, for me this is the best thing on C510. I haven’t been astonished by the camera, the Cyber-shot brand didn’t make it any better than a similar phone from a different manufacturer and I think this smile recognition has zero practical use, even though we can have some fun with it. Otherwise this is a typical mid-range Sony Ericsson, fans of the manufacturer will surely like it, but it’s nothing of interest for others.
Anyway, thanks to its balanced set of features, good assembly quality and large display, it deserves this award:
