Introduction
Bocha wrote me the other day on MSN, while trying to write something readable about 5320 (you can verify it here) that Nokia has really recovered. Better and better stuff is released, N82, N78, things like these, but then he didn’t yet know that 6210 Navigator somehow doesn’t fit in this line. It starts with its name: it’s unsympathetic.
Navigator. It has a GPS, with dedicated keys and Nokia Maps 2.0. Well, it’s not the only phone with these stuff. Practically it is a slider 6220 Classic, so it could have been called 6220 Slide, but no: 6110 needed a successor. Okay, it’s true that it was also a slider, it also had a GPS, but still, this could have even been called Alligator.
It would have been hard to miss, as practically any newer Nokia with a GPS could have been called a Navigator, as one can navigate with it, even though I still think that there are better solutions on the market and this is due to two things. First is the display size, and the second is that navigating and making calls at the same time is a rather difficult thing. Even if Nokia makes it possible, the user still won’t be able to merge the two activities from this point of view; he will drive and pay attention to navigation or he will drive and talk via handsfree (in a normal case).
Still, a GPs in a phone is not a stupid thing at all, as we can tag our photos with infos about where have we been traveling around, it can come in handy when on foot and a nice POI database can save a date (or even a life) in case the preferred restaurant is closed. And these are just a couple of selected examples. But the 6210 Navigator we got from XXL GSM is still a phone primarily, so let’s take a look at it from this point of view too.
