Hirdetés

Steve Ballmer, CEO of Microsoft, has unveiled some details of the company's plans after officially announcing Windows Mobile 6.5 The mobile operating system has become increasingly important for the company, as now about 4% of the company's employees (nearly 2,000 people) are working on projects related to the product. The company leader has again confirmed that Microsoft is not planning to launch its own mobile phone, but remains committed to the licensing system. Windows Mobile is the third largest system on the market, following Symbian and RIM, but it still doesn't have a huge profit, and the company wants to balance this by introducing new, extra services. The continuous expansion of the smartphone market and the increasing demand for online services means for the software giant that integrating Widows Live and other online services is a key to the system's success. Ballmer has announced that the development of Windows Mobile 7, coming next year, and following mobile systems is less and less separated from the development of the desktop OS. According to the CEO the two operating systems are in fact two sides of the same project, which means that in the future an increasing amount of common technologies and solutions will be available on the two platforms, including the web browser, the presentation platform (Silvelight) or even the kernel. Convergence cannot only help in reducing development costs, but applying similar solutions means a higher level of comfort for users as well, as a more usual interface can be created both on desktop computers and smartphones.
