Soon after Nokia has announced the acquisition of Symbian, the Symbian Foundation has been established, having the aim of creating a uniform and open Symbian platform. The greatest companies of the mobile industry, network operators, phone- and hardware manufacturers and software companies have already joined the initiative. On the occasion of this year's Symbian Smartphone Show, however, it has turned out that, with another dozen members, the number of companies supporting the operating system has grown to fifty. Newly joined ARM, CIeNET, Flander, FUJISOFT, Huawei, Inmote, InnoPath Software, Red Bend, Scalado, Symsource, TRANGO Virtual Processors and Visaare expected to start laying the foundations of the new system in early 2009, thus the final system might be launched in 2010.
