Although today 16 GB is the largest microSD memory card available from SanDik, the manufacturer is already working hard on the eight times larger, 128 GB edition. On such a large memory card we could store even 134 full-size movies, 20.000 high-resolution images, or even 16.000 music tracks and it's only 15 x 11 x 1 mm large. The huge capacity card is of course not done yet, as according to SanDisk its production might start only as of 2011, as they have to overcome lots of difficulties by then. According to the estimates of market researcher Gartner, about 1.2 billion cell phones will be sold in 2008, 700 million of which will come with expandable memory, and by 2010 an expected 80 percent of phones (about 950 million) will support memory cards. This means that the potential market is rather large and we also shouldn't forget that in mobile computers lower capacity hard disks are soon taken over by Flash-based SSD storage systems.
