With the increase in size of data storage devices it has become more and more important to provide an appropriate speed. Although the recently announced SanDisk Extreme III series doesn't contain microSD cards for the time being, only conventional SD cards, it's still worth checking them out, as their light-speed transfer capabilities might soon appear in the Mobile Ultra series too. The new Extreme III SDHC cards, capable of writing and reading up to 30 MB of data per second, are primarily made for lens reflex cameras and high-resolution digial video cameras, where the high wirte- and read speeds are extremely important. The cameras of cell phones do not currently take 5-6 MB large images, so the extreme speeds are not so important in this segment. The SanDisk Extreme III SDHC cards will be available from September in sizes of 4, 8 and 16 GB at prices of $65, $110 and $180 USD.
