Even if a bit late, here we have the latest blog post in the series presenting the prototype of Samsung i8510 Innov8! After the previous part many have asked me to make a video about the menu system, so the handset's speed can be seen. I would be happy to do so, but unfortunately there has been some technical error with it, so there are no videos this time, but I will surely do everything to have them in the next post.
Though not at the beginning of the week, but the new software has still arrived and at first look it doesn't have any important new feature. Still, I have run the benchmarks that has been asked for by many of you: I have again used the good old JBenchmark-trio that is great for Symbian, or at least I have tried to run it, as I had an unexpected error with JBenchmark 3D, as the handset told me that there is not enough Java memory - I have of course immediately reported the error to Samsung and they are wokring heavily on correcting the issue, so hopefully I will have results from this program too for the next time.

No matter the new software and the 3D acceleration, the test results are quite disappointing, as currently Innov8 is the slowest handset from the competition. It is, however, visible that this is probably not a hardware, but a software bug, as for example in JBenchmark 1 the Text result is the only one that is very weak, so weak that it ruins the overall score too - and we shouldn't forget that the manufacturer is working heavily on this and after all: the handset I have is only a prototype! I am personally absolutely sure that these results will improve a lot until the final version.
The default themes have also been mentioned, including the one called Elegance Noire. Based on the screenshots below probably everyone can decide if he or she likes this black, elegant skin, I personally prefer the colored Samsung theme.
Even if there's no speed boos with the new software, there is a new game: instead of Asphalt 3D we have Asphalt 4, that I have never heard about before. This car-racing-drifting game is just great in my opinion, but FIFA 08 isn't bad either, next time I'll make videos of both, but until then here are two screenshots:
Somebody asked me to take a couple of test pictures with the new software. I have did it, and I can't see any change in quality, but I have tried this new increased dynamics range: well, it's nothing, it just sets brightness and results in artificial, lame pictures.
In case we use the handset in Mass Storage mode, we can copy files on it at a speed of about 1100-1200 KB/second, which is not the best, but based on Omnia we can hope that this will change too - just like the size of free memory, so I won't even mention that this time.
That's all for now, next time we'll have a post with videos too!
