Nokia translates text from pictures

Many services have tried to take advantage of the features provided by the cameras in phones. There are applications that recognize name-cards, these can add new contacts to the phonebook, based on a name card that has been caught on picture, while other software can recognize barcodes or offer entertainment services. Nokia's latest „Shoot to Translate” solution enables the Nokia Multiscanner name-card recognizer software on Nokia E66 and E71 to translate texts that have been caught on picture. It's enough to take a picture of the text to be translated and the application translates the recognized text to the language of the handset's owner. The databases required for translation have a size of about 600 kbyte for English, French and Greek languages, while Japanese and Chinese dictionaries require 3 MB of space. Later on there can be of course downloaded new language packs.
