The Finnish manufacturer has officially confirmed that on their new-generation phones LTE will be the most widely used data transfer standard, the first handset being expected by 2010, according to GigaOM. On the occasion of the PCCA (Portable Computer and Communications Association) conference James Harper from Nokia has announced that their company is committed to LTE, which will be the most important data transfer protocol of future phones. The WiMAX technology, promoted by American Sprint and Clearwire, is told to have too many downsides according to technological professionals and it will be a viable solution for only a small amount of users. At the same time it has also been confirmed that the Finnish manufacturer won't make any WiMAX-capable products in the near future. No official information has been released regarding the launch of Nokia products with LTE support, but according to speculations we should expect not only phones, but LTE notebooks as well, as according to the company's leaders the border between portable computers and mobile phones will decrease in five years, as part of the digital convergence.
