C for Cyber-shot. Our readers who already know Sony Ericsson's palette of products will probably look up suddenly and that's rightful: models specialized in taking pictures have been part of the K series until now, isn't it? Yes it is. But as it cleared up at Sony Ericsson's press conference in Barcelona, these models have been placed to the C series, which did not exist until now. We didn't get an answer for the question: why?

The manufacturer presented two of these models at the program, one of them is the C702. The average-sized phone (106x48x15.5 mm, 105 grams) has a 3.2 megapixel autofocus camera and includes the face recognition feature from G900. It's display is a 2.2" one with a resolution of 240x320 pixels, it has an internal memory of 150 MB and it can be expanded with a Memory Stick Micro card (M2). There is no WiFi in it, but of course it supports Bluetooth. According to the manufacturer the C702 resists physical impacts like water and dust but this will show in practice.

From the new models this and its brother are HSDPA capable and support all four GSM frequencies. Its highly proclaimed GPS is not a "genuine" one, but a so-called aGPS (Assisted-GPS); its use requires network coverage and the data calculated by the system is not based on the position of the satellites. Consequently the gadget is not the best choice for navigation (well some things can be resolved with the help of Google Maps), the reason for the presence of the aGPS is that we can - theoretically - mark our photos with the location they were taken at. This feature could be really handy at the Eiffel tower...

The device will be available as of Q2 2008 in Cyan Blue and Speed Black colors. In case they would have used the latter color combination at the presentation they would have surely been asked one more question.
